William Clark Gable (February 1, 1901 – November 16, 1960) was an American film actor and military officer, often referred to as "The King of Hollywood", over three decades he was a leading man in more than 60 motion pictures. Gable won an Academy Award for Best Actor for It Happened One Night (1934), and was nominated for leading roles in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and for his best-known role as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind.

THE MISFITS: is a 1961 American drama film written by Arthur Miller, directed by John Huston, and starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift. It marked the last completed film for both Monroe and Gable, her childhood screen idol. As a child, Monroe had often claimed that Gable was her father. For Gable, the film was posthumously released, while Monroe died the following year. Gable suffered a heart attack two days after filming ended and died ten days later, November 16, 1960.

"FRANKLY, MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN": His line in Gone with the Wind is one of the most famous lines in movie history but it almost never made it to the big screen. Cinema audiences all over the world have sobbed at the final moments of Gone with the Wind when Rhett Butler turns to Scarlett O'Hara and says with chilling disdain: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." But an annotated script of the film, shows that because of censorship rules on swearing, the line was nearly changed to: "Frankly my dear, I just don't care." Selznick paid the board of censors $5,000 and the original line was allowed to remain.

THE PROFANE ANGEL: Gable's marriage in 1939 to his third wife, actress Carole Lombard (1908–1942), was the happiest period of his personal life. It was tragically cut short when she died at the age of 33 in an airplane crash on Mount Potosi, Nevada while returning from a war bond tour. One of her many nicknames was The Profane Angel as she was swearing a lot.
