James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. He is often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul". In a career that lasted 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres.

POOJIE: was the name of his dog. When Poojie died, James Brown had a lavish funeral and got him a white casket.

MR. DYNAMITE: one of his nicknames

THE APOLLO: The Apollo Theater is a music hall which is a noted venue for African-American performers. On October 24, 1962, Brown financed a live recording of a performance at the Apollo and convinced Syd Nathan to release the album, despite Nathan's belief that no one would buy a live album due to the fact that Brown's singles had already been bought and that live albums were usually bad sellers. It was released the following June and became an immediate hit, eventually reaching number two on the Top LPs chart and selling over a million copies, staying on the charts for 14 months
