Wendy Orlean Williams (May 28, 1949 – April 6, 1998), better known as Wendy O. Williams, was an American

“NEW HOPE FOR THE WRETCHED”: The Plasmatics were famous for their shocking performances.Usually the stage was also decorated with the decaying carcass of some unimaginably enormous beast, not to mention a blood-spattered drum kit, and a banner bearing the slogan “New Hope for the Wretched” was draped behind them. That slogan, would also become the name of their debut album. The cover photo, incidentally, featured a destroyed Cadillac, drowned in a swimming pool (the Cadillac being the band’s status symbol sedan of choice to destroy).

CAPTAIN KINK'S SEX FANTASY THEATER: In 1976, Williams arrived in New York City, where she saw an ad in the Show Business magazine that lay open on the Port Authority Bus Terminal station floor. It was a casting call for radical artist and Yale University graduate Rod Swenson's experimental "Captain Kink's Theatre". By 1977, Swenson became Williams' manager and recruited her to join his newly formed punk rock band, Plasmatics. They made their debut in July 1978 at the Manhattan music club CBGB.

1972 CADILLAC PIER 62: In September of 1980, the Plasmatics thrilled a crowd of twelve thousand, and got plenty of media coverage too, when Wendy drove a 1972 Cadillac Coupe de Ville onto a stage loaded with explosives on Pier 62, jumping out moments before the car would hit the stage, blowing up all the equipment.
